Foolish Heart

you made a fool of me
told me to listen to you
trust you with everything
everyone told me to follow you
no matter what to follow you
on my left sleeve is where you rested
you were so open and i liked that about you
i never thought you would let anyone else in
but you did
there was something about you that always scared me
you were broken you see
i felt the need to protect you so that no one would break you again
you always cry out for those who meant the most to you
reaching out needing someone to trust
then she comes along
you dance to the rhythm of her step
you began to sing on tops of mountains
skip around with just the thought of her
you would feel a rush through her touch
you smiled at the sound of her laugh
you would constantly tell me
she felt the same
you let me believe i was worthy again
well you know what you have failed me repeatedly
they told me to share you freely
but never warned me of all the beating
left with cuts, bruises, & open wounds
dont cry now because you are hurt
you brought this on yourself
